About The Author
Anita Johnson, better known as Mama Nita, has quickly become America’s favorite Mom, and her down home spirit and charismatic personality have caught the eyes of many viewers from her first appearance on the reality show, Tiny and Toya, alongside her daughter, Toya Johnson-Rushing. From that appearance, Mama Nita went on to star in BET’s hit show, Toya: A Family Affair, to TI and Tiny’s, Friends & Family Hustle to the recently successful, Toya and Reginae on WeTV. In 2016, Mama Nita lost two sons, Rudy and Josh in a double murder homicide. Devastated and distraught, she struggled to find peace often turning to drugs for solace. She wrote an autobiography, How Well Do We Know Ourselves? that chronicled her tumultuous childhood and years of drug addiction. In 2024, Mama Nita gave her life to Christ and has found joy in praising the Lord and cooking good food in her kitchen for her children, grandkids, family and friends. She often says that when she’s in her kitchen cooking is where she finds her Glory. Mama Nita resides in Atlanta, Georgia.
About The Book
From the moment she could walk and talk, Mama Nita was in the kitchen. As a young girl, she spent time with Grandma Emily, who taught her how to make grilled cheese sandwiches with buttery bread and a hot skillet—bonding over food, laughter, and love. Today, Mama Nita still fills her kitchen with joy, sharing stories with her children—Walter, Toya, Joshua, Casey, Beedy, and Rudy—her grandkids, and the many neighborhood kids who adore her cooking. In her debut cookbook, In My Glory: Cooking, Laughing and Storytelling in Mama Nita’s Kitchen, she brings her New Orleans upbringing to life through beloved recipes and heartfelt memories—each dish a tribute to the pain, the love, and the resilience that shaped her journey to Glory.
